How to Install EPEL Repository on CentOS 6.4 or Redhat 6.4 RHEL

1. Download and import GPG key

[root@Centos64 ~]# wget http://ftp.riken.jp/Linux/fedora/epel/RPM-GPG-KEY-EPEL-6

2. Download epel software

NOTE: Go to http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/ to download newest version for epel-release package, if you can not use these commands

[root@Centos64 ~]# wget http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm
–2012-12-07 08:08:35– http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm

3. Install epel on Centos

[root@Centos64 ~]# rpm -ivh epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm

[root@Centos64 ~]#

4. Test install software by EPEL

[root@Centos64 ~]# yum –enablerepo=epel install php-pdo -y
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, refresh-packagekit, security

    rpm -i http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/i386/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm

    Then accepting the key via yum (when installing from epel) is a much simpler and quicker way to do this.

    Also, as an aside; just giving people the commands one after the other they can just paste in and then an optional screen shot with the actual output is the conventional way of doing this stuff.
