Howto configure user authentication on Samba Server – Fedora 18

1. Add new group for samba user :

[root@dhcppc2 ~]# groupadd sharegroup

2. Create a new share, set the permission on the share:

[root@dhcppc2 ~]# mkdir /home/sharegroup
[root@dhcppc2 ~]# chgrp sharegroup /home/sharegroup/
[root@dhcppc2 ~]# chmod 770 /home/sharegroup/

3. Edit the smb.conf file:

security = user

# add at the last line

[chiase] # any name you like
path = /home/sharegroup
writable = yes
create mode = 0770
directory mode = 0770
share modes = yes
guest ok = no                  # guest not allowed
valid users = @security   # allow only security group

4. Restart smb service:

[root@dhcppc2 ~]# systemctl restart smb.service
[root@dhcppc2 ~]# systemctl restart nmb.service

5. Connect your samba server from Windows system:

fedora18 samb server 26. Now you can access your shared file/folder on samba server by your smb username/pass:

fedora18 samb server 4
