Howto change hostname on Redhat 6.3 RHEL

This guide will help you how to change hostname on Redhat 6.3 RHEL

1. Present your hostname is

[root@localhost /]# cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=localhost.localdomain
[root@localhost /]#

2. Change by modify /etc/sysconfig/network

[root@localhost /]# cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=Redhat6
[root@localhost /]# init 6
[root@localhost /]#

3. After reboot, we will get new hostname.

login as: root
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.3 (Santiago)
Kernel \r on an \m
###############################################################
# ITHELPBLOG.COM#
# Authorized access only! #
# Disconnect IMMEDIATELY if you are not an authorized user!!! #
# All actions Will be monitored and recorded #
###############################################################

root@192.168.0.119’s password:
Last login: Fri Dec 14 09:55:21 2012 from 192.168.0.105
[root@Redhat6 ~]#

[root@Redhat6 ~]# hostname
Redhat6
[root@Redhat6 ~]#
